The last time Matt Harvey threw a pitch at Citi Field was Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013. It wasn't a good outing. The powerhouse Detroit Tigers laid a beatdown on him. Up until that point, Harvey was great and it turned out the shelling was due to a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow. Now that Harvey has returned, though, the New York Mets are hoping for him to bounce back in a big way. As a matter of fact, they expect him to be the second coming of Dwight "Doc" Gooden by being a top ace in the league and having the ability to draw fans to the ballpark. He's beginning to draw Gooden-level attendance numbers. Knowing Harvey is taking his cannonball right arm to the mound for the second game at Citi Field, ticket sales soared. The "Harvey Effect," much like the "Gooden Effect," helped draw more than 40,000 people to the seats for the Tuesday game. That's only a few thousand off from the 2013 All-Star Game's number of 43,947 fans. Gooden's attendance numbers were eerily similar. In the 18 games he started at Shea Stadium, he drew an average of 40,072 fans. For every other game, the average attendance was 34,005. Read More »

Cabrera signed a one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Rays today, according to ESPN, in a move that will make Met fans initially scratch their heads. Cabrera is a cheap veteran who would serve as a serviceable stopgap at the position, where Ruben Tejada has stunk up for too long and Wilmer Flores may need more time to learn defensively. Cabrera was an All-Star as recently as 2012 and received MVP votes as recently as 2011, although his production has declined. But he's still just 28 and would provide decent plate production while excelling in the field. He looked like a perfect fit. Now it looks like the Mets missed out. Or did they? Read More »
Ever since April 2011, when Troy Tulowitzki spent four games pulverizing the New York Mets at Citi Field, making diving catches and blasting home runs over the previously unreachable fences, Mets fans have salivated for the power-hitting shortstop. Now that the Colorado Rockies have put Tulowitzki officially on the trading block, that salivation has turned into a ravenous drool. Throw in the fact that the Mets's starting shortstop hit .237 last season while Tulowitzki owns a career .299/.373/.603 slash line and ... you get it. They want him bad. But can they get him? The Rockies will ultimately want a huge return for Tulowitzki, who is perennially considered one of the National League's top three position players despite a career filled with injuries. He's a four-time All-Star who batted .340 in 91 games last season before his season was cut short yet again. Read More »

The New York Yankees knew it'd be a tough job to rebuild after Derek Jeter retired, but they've started, and in drastic fashion too. The Yankees are prepared to spend big money in order to reshuffle their roster in to a World Series winning one. Will these moves be of any benefit to their hopes? Read More »
New York Mets ace Matt Harvey isn't afraid of making headlines or being seen, and Tuesday, Dec. 2, he met the media in anticipation of his return season to the mound. Harvey, who missed all of 2014 after undergoing Tommy John surgery after bursting onto the scene as one of baseball's best pitchers in 2013, hinted vaguely at a playoff prediction for his normally moribund Mets. "I don't think it's going to be easy to skip starts — I don't think any pitcher is going to want to really do that," Harvey said, about taking small rests throughout the season, according to "USA Today." "But to be able to pitch in October is going to be more important." The Mets haven't sniffed October since 2006, after historic collapses in 2007 and 2008 seemed to serve as a middle-finger prerequisite to troubling times ahead. Soon after came the Bernie Madoff scandal and half a decade of futility. Then, in 2013, Harvey came along and stole the baseball spotlight. He started the 2013 All-Star Game and posted a 2.27 ERA in 26 starts. Read More »
Derek Jeter and Dwyane Wade have a lot in common, and it seems that they're about to have even more in common. New York Yankees' Jeter has just retired after a long career in the MLB, while Wade is with the Miami Heat, and looks set to retire in the near future. Both stars have been dating models Hannah Davis and Gabrielle Union, with Wade recently marrying his partner. Now there are rumours that Jeter is about to do the same, also in a castle-based wedding. This has prompted rumours that they're expecting a child, hence his retirement. Could Wade and Union be preparing to have a family too? Read More »
