Yesterday, Billboard reported that in the last week, the track surpassed Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together" as the song with the largest radio audience in tracking history. By now we all know that Daft Punk did not show up to perform on "The Colbert Report" earlier this week due to contractual obligation with the MTV Video Music Awards. Host Stephen Colbert turned his shows into an exciting special featuring Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" and a star-studded episode. Daft Punk's booked performance on last night's (Aug. 6) episode of "The Colbert Report" did not go quite as planned, apparently. When the show opened last night, Stephen Colbert announced that despite being booked, the French electronic duo were not able to appear on the lampooning news show, because Viacom sister network MTV had booked Daft Punk to perform in a "secret" performance at the 2013 VMAs. Robin Thicke continued with the promotion and lampooning of his massive summer single "Blurred Lines" in a viral video with "Late Night" host Jimmy Fallon and hip-hop legends The Roots. In a move similar to Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" and Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You," Thicke, Fallon and co. redid "Blurred Lines" using children's classroom instruments. The singer-songwriter, who has been on the scene for more than a decade penning tunes for the likes of Mary J.Blige, Christina Aguilera and more, mainly remained in the shadows of Justin Timberlake (as if there's only room for one soulful white guy in R&B). The reviews are in on Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines and -as can be expected, since we've heard most of what's here already- the talk is overwhelmingly positive. That's not a knock on Thicke or a claim of derivativeness, Interscope Records has been shoving the album down our throats for weeks now, making an artist with a weeks-long stint at the top of the global charts seem even more omnipresent.
