Over the weekend, TMZ reported Harry Shearer, the voice of Mr. Burns, Ned Flanders, Principal Skinner and Waylon Smithers on The Simpsons, was the only holdout going into the 28th season of the famed FOX series. The most admirable thing about the Simpsons staying on the air for as long as it has is its ability to stay consistent whether it pertains to the characters remaining true to their original roots or that the voice actors behind the characters performing the near-impossible task of staying with the show. 'The Simpsons' have been around for so long they've seen a lot of things come and go. Phones went from kitchen items to everyday tools. The show even survived two Bush administrations. There's one more thing they may outlast, though, and that's DVDs as 'Simpsons' showrunner Al Jean said they're ending the production of seasonal DVDs. According to him, that market is dying. If the DVD really is on its last legs, it's funny to think that 'The Simpsons' are older than it. The show debuted in 1989 and the DVD was first released in 1995.
