Look away, NFL. More bad press could be coming your way. Buffalo Bills star running back LeSean McCoy and former San Diego Chargers running back, Curtis Brinkley, are both at the center of an alleged dust up--altercation--with two off duty police officers in Philadelphia. Local police say a total of four suspects were involved, however no charges have been filed yet.
The incident reportedly occurred just before 3 a.m. in a Philadelphia night club. As to what spurred on the incident, it is believed that an argument began over a bottle of champagne. Specifically, the ownership of said bottle of champagne.
You see, the off duty police officers had ordered multiple bottles of champagne at the same nightclub McCoy and Brinkley were at. Someone in McCoy's circle grabbed a bottle from the police officers, believing it to be from their party. The mix up lead to an argument, and a physical altercation ensued.
As a result of the altercation two of the off duty police officers were hospitalized.
"Nothing should amount to this kind of incident where you have someone going to the ground and have any individual stomping a person over a bottle of champagne. It makes no sense whatsoever," Lt. John Stanford of the Philadelphia Police told 6abc.com.
While Brinkley hasn't played in the league since 2012, McCoy is a key component to the Bills offense. The team officially released this statement Monday morning in regards to the situation:
"We are aware of the reports regarding LeSean McCoy and are in the process of gathering more information. We will not provide any further comment at this time."
McCoy is a Philadelphia native who spent his first six professional years in the city playing with the Eagles. He's said to be a mainstay in the community, and has no prior off-the-field incidents.
