Although there's no official release date announced for Netflix's revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, it would seem we're getting closer to an announcement, as the people involved in the show seem to be getting more and more outspoken on interviews and social media. Melissa McCarthy, who first rose to fame in the role of Stars Hollow chef Sookie St. James, just talked some mild spoilers!
McCarthy, who is currently promoting her new film, the all-female Ghostbusters reboot, recently caught up with E! Online regarding her return to the lovely and fast-talking world created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, and she had nothing but great things to say about her experience returning to Gilmore Girls. She seemed pretty keen, particularly, on having the rare and wonderful chance to set the record straight with the show's ending.
"When else do you get a chance to do that? I mean, the odds are so ridiculous. You don't get to redo your ending like that," Oscar-nominated McCarthy said. "I think it's a great idea. I think it's the right time to do it and I think people are going to be really happy with it."
It's refreshing to see McCarthy talking about her return to Stars Hollow, particularly because she so nearly missed it. After just about everyone from the original run of Gilmore Girls had already been confirmed to co-star, it seemed McCarthy would be missing the chance to appear as Lorelai's best friend and business partner, Sookie.
Eventually, the star, who has gone on to have her own show (Mike & Molly) and become one of the most successful comedy actresses in Hollywood, went on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to reveal to the world that she'd definitely be part of the Gilmore Girls revival.
Later this month, three of the main cast members of the upcoming revival (namely Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel and Scott Patterson) will be part of the Television Critics Association Tour, alongside show creator Sherman-Palladino and her husband, Daniel Palladino. It's expected that, during their panel, there are a few new announcements regarding the show: probably a release date and hopefully some sort of teaser.
A few weeks back, an official Gilmore Girls Instagram account was launched, and it's already featured a few teaser images from Stars Hollow. In the latest of these, we can see a takeout order from usual town spot Al's Pancake World, which continues to serve Chinese food.
