Toy Story 4 will be delayed to make way for an earlier release date for the sequel of The Incredibles! This was announced by Pixar and Walt Disney Studios just today.
Now, this wasn't the first time Toy Story 4 was delayed. Toy Story 4 was first announced to be released on June 17, 2017 but was moved a year later. However taking its place is "The Incredibles 2 " set to hit the screens on June 15, 2018 pushing the Toy Story 4 production to premiere on June 21, 2019
According to Comingsoon the director and writer of "The Incredibles 2" Brad Bird stated that he "had a bunch of ideas" he wanted to incorporate in The Incredibles film but did not seem to fit. Brad Bird added that there were some ideas that fit while some where made up as they went along, there were a pile of left over ideas that they could do with or without. In Brad's own words, " I wanted to come up with sort of an over-arching idea that connected to the first film that went somewhere different. That's the one that took a little more time." Bird didn't want to reveal anything about the film though.
As for Toy Story 4 director John Lasseter (also the director of Toy Story 1, 2, and 3) along with co-director Josh Cooley has plans to possibly improve the rescheduled 4th Toy Story sequel. According to Slashfilm, Lasseter said, "We love these characters so much; they are like family to us. We don't want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what's gone before. Toy Story 3 ended Woody and Buzz's story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another Toy Story movie. But when Andrew, Pete, Lee and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie-and I wanted to direct it myself."
The new Pixar movie timeline is as follows:
Cars 3 - 16th of June, 2017
Coco - 22nd of November, 2017
The Incredibles 2 - 15th of June, 2018
Toy Story 4 - 21st of June, 2019
