J. Cole 'Born Sinner' Climbs to No. 1 on Billboard 200, 'Yeezus' Surpassed in Total Sales

In his third week on the charts, J. Cole finally has the No. 1 album in the country, according to Billboard. He climbed to the top spot on the Billboard 200 in a small sales week by moving 58,000 copies of his second studio album Born Sinner. Previously, J. Cole had been stuck at No. 2 behind Kanye West’s Yeezus in its debuting week and Wale’s The Gifted on July 3.

Though Yeezus topped Born Sinner in its initial frame, the album has since taken a tumble in sales. Last week, the album dropped 83 percent in sales with only 65,000 copies sold. This week, Yeezus slipped down another spot to No. 3, moving 39,000 copies.

Though Born Sinner's sales are also dropping, the album is declining at a much slower pace than West's record. Because of that, Born Sinner has now surpassed Yeezus in sales (439,000 copies to 431,000 copies).

Yeezus' huge drop has largely been due to a lack of promotion or a lead single. Though "Black Skinhead" - which had an unfinished video leak yesterday - will be released as a single, it's not expected until next week. Therefore, hardcore Kanye fans bought Yeezus upon its release, while the record hasn't necessarily gained any new fans from publicity.

Last week was a small week for album sales and debuts. Wale's The Gifted took the No. 2 spot, Imagine Dragons were at No. 4 and Florida Georgia Line's Here's to the Good Times sat at No. 5. The only debuting album in the top 10 sat at No. 6, with Joe's Doubleback: Evolution of R&B.

Next week, Jay-Z's eighth studio album Magna Carta Holy Grail is expected to debut at No. 1, selling between 350,000 to 400,000 copies.
