The former World Cup champions from Italy are set to take on the surprising Costa Rica players today in a decisive Group D matchup today. If the teams draw, England is definitely out of the tournament. Though if either team loses, the group opens up a bit and the final game will decide who moves forward. Today's match is a huge step for all teams involved.
"If we beat Costa Rica I want a kiss, obviously on the cheek, from the UK Queen," Italy's forward Mario Balotelli posted on Twitter yesterday after Uruguay's victory.
Last week, Italy "suffered" in the Brazilian heat and expects that this afternoon game will be just as difficult. Though the team was victorious against England, Costa Rica is a surprising talent that embarrassed Uruguay last week - we're in for a great game today.
"We're ready. We don't have any more excuses," Italy's coach Cesare Prandelli. "I really believe that we will suffer, but we have an idea of what we're going to be doing on the pitch."
Comparing all of the teams in Group D, Costa Rica is definitely the scariest opponent. This is a team with nothing to lose and everything to prove. With an impressive first match last week, can they upset the Italians today or will Italy prove to us all once again why they're a world football power?
