Algeria has a two-point lead over South Korea and today's opponents Russia in Group H, thus placing them just behind Belgium for the first round. A win against the former Soviets will ensure a second round appearance, but that is easier said than done.
"There is only one chance against Algeria - a draw solves nothing," said the Russian coach, Fabio Capello. "I still believe. Absolutely I believe."
Capello understands what is at stake today, but will that be enough for a win?
"We want to play and that's what we'll do," Algeria's midfielder Nabil Bentaleb said. "You must remove this defensive-team tag which stuck to the national team at the last World Cup. We just show that we have a team that knows how to tackle and how to score goals, and that is what we will do to deal with Russia."
This match and the simultaneous game between Belgium and South Korea will determine who plays the Group G winners, Germany and USA. Group H's winner will play the US and the runner-up will play Group G's winner, Germany. These matches will air next week.
Make sure to tune in for this one, though, as it is one of the most important games of the week!
