One thing we definitely know we can look forward to in the upcoming 8th season of BBC's Doctor Who - thanks to sneak-peek photos and trailers - is that Peter Capaldi's 12th Doctor is dressed to impress! In a recent interview ahead of the August 23 premiere date of the newest episode entitled "Deep Breath," Capaldi revealed some teasers about his wardrobe!

According to Capaldi, his wardrobe was inspired by how he viewed the Doctor as a fan from the past.

"I was keen to avoid items that can be fetishized and turned into merchandise," he explained. "I'd always seen him in dark colors, maybe because that's how I started with Doctor Who in the black and white days - all those Doctors tended to be dark."

Howard Burden was the costume designer in charge of the project, but having Capaldi's input was key.

"I went to art school, I like rock & roll, I like German expressionism," Capaldi said of the outfit they decided on. "We tried to pack all these things into quite a severe look, which I think looks cool, while being quite classic as well."

Meanwhile, series showrunner Steven Moffat this week revealed that he's attempting to reinvent Doctor Who with Capaldi this season.

"Certain things we were doing a little reflexively. Some of the humor was getting a bit glib," he told Empire Magazine. "One of the hardest things to notice is when your new idea has become your old idea and it's time to get rid of it."

He added:

"Some situations are more somber and I think there are more rooted dramatic scenes. Over the past two or three years, which I've loved, there has often been a breathless vigor; we still have that attack, but we have another level of drama, another tone. And the scenes are longer."
