The movie-musical is back and this time it's darker and full of A-list actors. Into the Woods is the latest spin on a musical turned movie, but its focus is on adapting the 1987 fairy-tale fantasy into a film unlike any story you've seen. The cast, including Johnny Depp and Emily Blunt, are sharing on-set secrets and memories before the film's release in December.

Disney's Into the Woods was directed by Rob Marshall with the idea of shedding a new light on the storybook tales we all know and love. The story centers on a Witch (Meryl Streep) as she teaches lessons to various storybook characters. Some of the characters include The Baker (James Corden) and his wife (Blunt) as they venture into the enchanted forest to try and lift the witch's curse.

Along the way they find themselves running into classic characters like Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), The Big Bad Wolf (Johnny Depp) and Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy). The story, however, isn't as happy and enchanting as the tales you remember.

"I didn't want this to look like a cartoon world. It's not sunny, sunny, sunny — we wanted a sense of danger," Rob told Entertainment Weekly.

Depp revealed that his character, the only animal character in the film, was really able to evolve thanks to the director of the film.

"Rob Marshall wasn't afraid to let me take the role to a level of heightened reality, almost cartoon-like, where one second the Wolf is here, and then, boom, suddenly he's over there," the Pirates of the Caribbean actor told Entertainment Weekly.

Blunt, who plays The Baker's Wife, explained that they entire experience of filming this movie was magical.

"I found the whole set was just so transporting, I thought it was magical," she revealed to the publication.

Chris Pine plays Cinderella's Prince in the film, and his favorite part of about his character might be his hairstyle.

"I said, 'What if he had this weird Elvis pompadour, always coiffed and absurdly too big?' There's something laughable about him. He's very gallant, but you just want him to also be, like, a douche," he explained.

Into the Woods hits theaters Dec. 25.
