A couple of days ago it was announced that Dave Matthews Band frontman Dave Matthews would be raising the coveted 12th man flag in Seattle, Washington –– a ritual done to celebrate the fans of the famed Seattle football team. Just before Super Bowl XLIX kicks off between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots, Matthews did just that earlier this morning, hoisting the flag in a hilarious manner that only Dave Matthews could. Was it as good as SNL's Tom Brady "DeflateGate" sketch? Well, that's debatable.
From DMB News, the famed musician took the invite to the event rather cautiously in the beginning, admitting his public shyness even after 20 years of being in the spotlight; however, after talking with his kids, the jam bandleader accepted the invite with open arms.
Take a look at Matthews' raising the 12th man flag earlier this morning in Seattle here:
Charming, ain't he?
On the honor, Matthews' stated, "It's so exciting to be in this city with the energy everyone feels and the support that everyone feels, and the way it sort of brings a civil pride into the city.
"To get called up and asked to be a part of that was a real treat," he further commented.
And judging from all the press around, being present and watching Matthews raising the flag was a real treat as well!
Tune into the Super Bowl this coming Sunday, Feb. 1 at 6:30 p.m. on NBC.
