Filmmaker Justin Lin is best known for directing multiple installments of the Fast & Furious film franchise and is working on some season 2 episodes of HBO's True Detective, but in 0216 we'll see what he can do in deep space. After some drama surrounding Roberto Orci and the new Star Trek 3 movie project, Lin has been named as Orci's replacement as the director. We previously reported that Orci would remain a big influence on the film in a producer position, but Lin will be the man in charge, taking over for J.J. Acclaimed writer and producer Roberto Orci was about to take over the director's chair for the yet-to-be titled Star Trek 3 movie, but this week we learned that he didn't get the job. Reports aren't clear as to whether or not he turned down the job, or something else happened, but for now the Into Darkness scribe is remaining as a producer for the popular Star trek reboot movie franchise, which Orci helped start with director J.J. Star Trek 3 updates and talk has been piling in over the last few weeks, thanks to cast and crew members sharing their excitement about the project in numerous interviews. This week, John Cho and Bruce Greenwood, who both starred in the first two Star Trek reboot films (Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness), spoke about writer-turned-director Roberto Orci and their excitement about the next film, which has a release date set for summer 2016. While screenwriter Roberto Orci is the frontrunner to direct Star Trek 3 thanks to his work on the first film and Into Darkness, an official decision has not been made.
