Director Roberto Orci has big ideas for his upcoming Star Trek 3 movie project, which this week we learned could involve a reunion of the original Captain Kirk and Spock, actors William Shatener and Leonard Nimoy. On top of the new plot ideas and other details for the film (with a release date set for 2016), we can finally have a Shatner cameo that fans have been waited for since J.J. Abrams rebooted the franchise in 2009.

Earlier this week we reported on Orci dropping out of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers reboot movie project, mostly because of scheduling conflicts but also to focus on Star Trek 3. Read more on that HERE!

We saw Nimoy in both reboot movies, but Shatner was cut for some reason. Apparently the cameo didn't make too much sense in the Abrams films, so he never made it back on screen; but Orci is ready to change all of that!

Badass Digest broke this story, reporting:

I have learned that the script for Star Trek 3 includes a scene that reteams Shatner and Nimoy onscreen as Kirk and Spock for the first time in canon since 1991's Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. It would be a pretty huge moment for fans of the franchise, and likely the last time we'll ever see Shatner as James T. Kirk in official continuity.
