Apple Watch News: Google Maps, Amazon And eBay Drop Support For The Device Without Notice

Three major apps dropped their support for Apple Watch. According to reports, Google Maps, Amazon and eBay quietly removed the Apple Watch apps from the App Store.

Google Maps, Amazon and eBay cut their support for Apple Watch apps by removing its functionality in its recent App Store updates. It is not clear as to when the three major apps removed the Apple Watch support as the elimination went under the radar, Mac Rumors reported.

According to Apple Insider, a handful of apps are no longer supported on Apple Watch. This happened without any heads-up or explanation. Google abandoned its Maps apps on watch OS a few weeks ago already. This went unnoticed as it was not mentioned in the released notes. However, Amazon and eBay just pulled their support in its recent updates. Both were updated in late April and on Monday, May 1, the Apple Watch app was noticeably missing on their iOS apps.

Target and TripAdvisor were also affected. Back in February, a TripAdvisor thread started questioning about the changes. Users emailed technical support regarding their concerns but received no response.

In addition to this, it remains unknown if the removal is permanent or temporary. However, reports have it that there weren't many people using the Apple Watch apps, hence it was removed. The same reason goes why the changes went unnoticed for weeks.

Many believe that going shopping on apps like Target, eBay and Amazon on one's wrist is not ideal and practical. Perhaps, this is why the developers opted to discontinue is support for Apple Watch.

Google Maps, Amazon and eBay were early supporters of Apple Watch. All three released the Apple Watch support only a few months when the device was released in April 2015.
