John Mayer Today Show: 'Paradise Valley' Rocker Performs 'Paper Doll,' 'Waiting on the World to Change' and 'Queen of California' in NYC Before Heading on Tour 2013 [VIDEO]

Today (July 5), "Daughters" rocker John Mayer stopped by The Today Show to discuss his recovering vocal chords and perform a small concert for the audience at Rockefellar plaza.

When talking to the Today hosts, Mayer revealed he had to get Botox in his throat in order to be able to sing again. Though the rocker wanted to be put under for the surgery, he was a "grown-up" and did it fully conscious.

Mayer said he never thought he would never be able to sing again, and luckily his treatments have works. However, his voice is changing. "It's different now just because the Botox is sort of clearing out. It's a gift that keeps unwrapping itself every month. I go, 'Oh! I can sing this song now!' So it looks like there's certain songs I won't play [on his upcoming tour]. It's just I can't," he said.

After the interview, Mayer performed a short song of three sets. The first is the lead single from his new album 2013 Paradise Valley, "Paper Doll." The soft rock song sounded just like the recorded version, proving that the time off has done Mayer well.

"Paper Doll" made headlines upon its release last month due to its lyrics that seem to address ex Taylor Swift, who infamously wrote the biting "Dear John" about their breakup. "You're like 22 girls in one, / But none of them know what they're running from, / Was it just to far to fall, / For a little paper doll?" he croons in the rebuttal track.

Mayer also performed his big 2006 hit "Waiting on the World to Change."

He finished up his performance with Born and Raised track "Queen of California."

John Mayer will start his first tour in years tomorrow at the Marcus Amphitheatre in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
