With the success of Marvel's film franchises and the crossover blockbuster The Avengers, Fox has decided to take notes from the comic book company that is taking over the film industry. Considering Fox owns the right to some of Marvel's biggest names, this seems like an obvious step. But now a rumor is going around suggesting that Fox is attempting to capitalize on these names in one film! Get ready because we could be seeing Fantastic Four vs X-Men in the near future.
io9 reports:
After multiple movies in their respective franchises, Fox has now decided to combine the Fantastic Four and the X-Men for an "Avengers"-style movie that could pay off huge for shareholders. Based on a 1987 four issue comic called Fantastic Four vs. X-Men, the movie will see the characters against each other because of secrets regarding the Fantastic Four's origin. The new movie also comes as Fox is rebooting the Fantastic Four series with new actors and actresses.
Back in August of this year, Mark Millar was asked about these two franchises crossing over in some way.
"Without question I think you have to see some of these guys showing up in each other's movies," he said. " I think the most exciting thing in superhero movies, until The Avengers came along, was when Nick Fury showed up in Iron Man. Even though it was a guy with an eye patch it was really cool - and I expect we will see more of that."
Also, earlier this month writer Simon Kinberg was hired to expand on both of these franchises with standalones and spinoffs as the priority.
"I have a lot of ideas on how to built those brands and do what everybody is thinking of these days: Be like Marvel. I want to be able to build stories over multiple movies." Kinberg said in regards to his latest contract.
But now with this rumor, perhaps Kinberg is working on one, all-encompassing film.
