Janay McFarlane was shot and killed in a Chicago, Illinois, suburb on Friday, just hours after her 14-year-old sister Destini Warren sat behind President Barack Obama during his speech advocating gun control legislation. The 18-year-old Janay was the mother of a 3-month-old boy and in the process of graduating from an alternative school this spring, in hopes of getting into the culinary arts. McFarlane was with visiting friends and family when she was shot in the head around 11:30 p.m. Friday night. The bullet was reportedly meant for her friend. Reports confirm that 37-year-old country songstress Mindy McCready was found dead on Sunday (Feb. 17) of an apparent suicide. NBC Dateline reporter Andrea Canning recently tweeted the unfortunate news that McCready "shot and killed herself earlier this evening." The "Ten Thousand Angels" crooner's brother also confirmed the songstress' suicide to the Daily News. McCready's death comes just a month after her boyfriend David Wilson was found dead on his front porch in Arkansas from a gunshot wound to the head. Reports confirm that Peggy Sue Thomas, an ex-beauty queen and former Ms. Washington, was sentenced to four years in prison on Friday (Feb. 15) for the 2003 murder of Russel Douglas. Although she originally faced decades behind bars after being charged with first-degree murder, Thomas later pleaded guilty to rendering criminal assistance in the death of Douglas. The Senate has passed a bill on Thursday, permitting a regulatory “framework” for growing hemp if the federal government legalizes its production or grants a waiver for the state. The government currently prohibits the growing of the plant because of its relation to marijuana. This hemp bill passed 31 – 6. Legislation allowing American farmers to cultivate and profit for industrial hemp was also introduced on Thursday by Oregon Democratic Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, as well as Republican United States Senators Rand Paul and Mitch McConnell. Reports confirm that 22-year-old Edith Casas from Argentina married boyfriend Victor Cingolani on Valentine's Day (Feb. 14)... the same man charged in the murder of Casas' twin sister and model, Johana Casas. Although Edith insists that Cingolani is innocent and has nothing to do with the 2010 shooting of her own twin sister, the young man is currently serving a 13-year sentence behind bars for the brutal crime. The couple, who tied the knot in a private ceremony in the same city where Johana was murdered, was met by a mob of angry protestors, who bombarded the newlyweds with stones and eggs outside of the register office. The 14-year-old Malia is now a teenager and her father understands that certain things come along with this age period. Reports confirm that a 60-year-old man has been accused of shouting a racial slur and then slapping a baby in the face during a recent Delta flight from Minneapolis to Atlanta. Following the incident, Joe Rickey Hundley was charged with simple assault involving 33-year-old Jessica Bennett and her 19-month-old son Jonah. During the alleged altercation, Hundley (apparently intoxicated) told Bennett to "shut that ni##er baby up" after young Jonah began getting restless during the plane's decent for landing. As the mother looked on in horror, Hundley then slapped Bennett's young boy across the face when he wouldn't quiet down. Read More »
