Ed Sheeran thinks Zayn Malik might regret leaving One Direction. In an interview with Australian radio show "Dan & Maz," Sheeran said he doesn't think Malik will find life as a typical twentysomething to be as exciting as it was when he was part of a wildly famous British boy band. "Fair play to him, let him be happy," Sheeran said. "But also being a normal 22-year-old's pretty boring...All I'm saying is, being a normal 22-year-old probably isn't as fun as being in One Direction. Just saying." Fair point.
Previously, Sheeran weighed in on Malik's decision to leave One Direction when he sat down with another Australian radio show "Hughesy & Kate." According to MTV, Sheeran seemed much more supportive of Malik's exit from the band when he first spoke out and said, "I think whatever makes him happy. The most important thing in life is to be happy, and if he was unhappy in that situation then yeah, don't stay in it. You don't want to make yourself unhappy just to earn money, that's not what life's about. You're meant to enjoy life, and if he wasn't enjoying his life then fair play to him." MTV reports Sheeran is one of several other celebrities like Simon Cowell, the band Five Seconds of Summer, and Nick Jonas who have commented on Malik's exit from One Direction.
Though Sheeran's latest comments about Malik may sound harsh, it seems like Sheeran still thinks Malik made the right choice, even if he thinks that being "normal" won't "be as fun" for 22-year-old Malik. Meanwhile, E! reports Malik's One Direction bandmates Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson have officially moved on following Malik's unexpected departure from the band, appearing in their first On The Road Again Tour poster without Malik.
