When Daisy Morris was 5 years old in 2008, she found a fossil on an Isle of Wight beach. Now that she is 9 years old, the fossil she found was proven by paleontologists to be a new species of flying dinosaur and it is now named after her. After being passed by the Hawaii state Senate, the celebrity privacy bill championed by Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler has been stalled in the House. It also looks like the "Steven Tyler Act" will not make it through the house after missed deadlines according to key lawmakers. Perhaps Tyler's song, "Dream On" is playing in his head right now. 6-year-old Emilie Parker was of the 20 first-graders killed on December 14th in the tragic Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre by gunman Adam Lanza. Her parents, Alissa and Robbie, met with the shooter's father, Peter, in order to gain some closure on the death of their daughter along with the other children. As part of the The Postal Service's 10-year anniversary of their hit album, Give Up, they and record label Sub Pop are reissuing the album along with some previously unreleased bonus tracks. The band consists of Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello, who work together to put together an indie-electronica sound that became very popular. Jenny Lewis was a member of the touring band and will return for the reunion tour, which starts in a few weeks. This reissue also features in-studio performances and covers of songs. They released the first bonus track in February ("A Tattered Line of String") and have just released the latest, "Turn Around," today. Read More »
Despite rumors of Blake Shelton’s loyalty to his wife Miranda Lambert, the couple was standing strong at TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood, California, during a party for the fourth season premiere of “The Voice.” Blake reportedly cheated on Miranda with aspiring musician Cady Groves. The 36-year-old judge of “The Voice” and his 29-year-old wife and “Gunpowder and Lead” singer are pretty used to rumors and tabloids, so seeing them together at yesterday’s event was no surprise to loyal fans. The Library of Congress has chosen 25 new songs to include in its National Recording Registry for preservation, and one of those songs is Simon and Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence." Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel wrote this iconic song in response to the assassination of former President John F. Kennedy. Garfunkel is thrilled about this induction and preservation. He says, "When you look at the little mesh, wire microphone... and you address people on the other side of the mic, you hope that your performance will be special, and you hope that it will have lasting power." This past weekend, NBA superstar Steve Nash was pictured in attendance at a young boy's Bar Mitzvah. That 13-year-old Mike Feinberg even got the non-Jewish Nash to hold the Torah during the ceremony (kind of a big deal). When the photo was featured on TMZ, everyone was very confused as to why the Los Angeles Lakers point guard was at this religious coming-of-age tradition. Ted Danson plays D.B. Russell on the CBS show "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," which was just renewed for at least one more season leading to the actor signing a new two-year contract with the show. "CSI" will be entering its fourteenth season next year. The popular crime drama show has spawned two spinoffs: "CSI: Miami," which ran for 10 seasons ending in 2010 and "CSI: NY," which is in its ninth season with an unknown fate. On Wednesday, a crowd of Culinary Workers Local 226 Union blocked traffic on the Las Vegas Strip for about an hour in protest of the Cosmopolitan casino resort, ending in almost 100 arrests. The demonstration was in response to two years of work without a contract. Negotiations have been ongoing with Cosmopolitan owner, Deutsche Bank, for two years. This is another example in a series of protests, but “the first time union members deployed civil disobedience, the tactical use of nonviolent law breaking, outside a unionized casino in more than two decades,” according to union spokeswoman Yvanna Cancela. The New York Giants' star quarterback, 32-year-old Eli Manning, is set to welcome his second child with his wife, Abby, in June. His daughter, Ava Frances, turns two today and the couple is not planning on stopping at two kids. Married for five years now, Eli and Abby hope to add more children to their family down the line.
